SORTING THROUGH THE CONTENTS
Spring Bay Mill is all about rejuvenation – and that means rejuvenation in the broadest sense possible. Rejuvenation of the environment, the buildings, the community…and also the contents of the buildings. We’re all for re-using the contents wherever possible – and anyone who knows the mill knows there’s no end of stuff here, spread right across the site.
A NEW LIFE FOR OFFICE FURNITURE
Apart from dust and a layer of possum poo, some parts of the mill look exactly the same as they did on the day operations ceased. We’ve been making an inventory of furniture, equipment and other bits and pieces, and working out which of those will have a place in the new incarnation of the mill. Some of the furniture is top quality and well designed – made out of, unsurprisingly, excellent timber. It’s quite likely that office cabinets and bookcases will be reused in public areas, and guests will be sitting on some of the old chairs from the administration block. When furniture’s as good as this – and has a history – we’d be crazy not to use it.
USING EQUIPMENT TO TELL A STORY
We’ve uncovered stacks of technical equipment which we’re hoping to incorporate into the rejuvenated mill – it obviously won’t be used in the way it was designed to be, but will be important in helping to tell the story of the mill. We know what some of that equipment is, but may well be doing a shout-out to those of you who worked here to discover what some of the more mysterious pieces are.
